Tusell, Cristina

Barcelona, 1954

e-mail: cristinatusell@yahoo.es

Resident of tallerBDN between September 2009 and December 2010.

She has studied at the Escola Massana and the Fundació del Centre del Vidre (Glass Centre Foundation) of Barcelona, majoring in sculpture. Her interest in human beings influences her first modelling and drawing works. The need to understand shapes pushes her toward anatomy. However, it is still insufficient and she begins searching for information in anthropology, philosophy, psychology, and above all within her. In this process, the image she has of humans has evolved and with it its representation.

In her work she uses drawing and painting to play with her ideas until they are transformed into sculpture. She works with wood, glass, clay and bronze. Her work is born from the need to express the images that originated upon exploring her inner self. She is currently showing a wood series in which she attempts to represent the Almas (Souls), a word that formerly referred to the inhabitants of a town or city. Soul as the vital principle, as the essence of individual life, as consciousness, as an ensemble of capabilities and possibilities. Thus, by changing the words "human being" for "soul", the name, concept, and therefore the representation, all change.
